Do you have 4 hours a week to change a child's life? Do you want to become a reading tutor volunteer? If you're 50 and over, looking for a way to give back to the community, and enjoy working with children, Experience Corps is the program for you.
More than 6 million students are at risk of academic failure and other life challenges because they're not reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Almost 70 percent of our nation's children reach 4th grade unable to read at a proficient level. The shortfall in reading proficiency is especially pronounced among low-income children.
Experience Corps helps K-3 children who are struggling with reading. Volunteers will work with students in small groups and one-on-one, all materials provided
No teaching experience is required; just a heart for service and children. Training, coaching, and supervision is provided. The time commitment desired is for an entire school year, twice a week for at least 2 hours a day. Tutoring time available is Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm.
