CAN connects passionate volunteers with students to build academic success and confidence.
Read to Succeed volunteers assist Brick Elementary teachers for 1-2 hours a week during the school day with literacy-based activities. Volunteers might:
- Read with students
- Practice sight word memorization
- Partner with students as they work on the writing process
- Help students practice and understand the components of storytelling
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, complete a volunteer application, background check (if 18+), and an online training.
To have enough time to build meaningful relationships with the students, volunteers should commit to 12 hours minimum for the semester (or about 1 day a week for 6-12 weeks).
A volunteer may choose any 1-2 hour time slot between 9:00am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday they can volunteer, and CAN's Director of Volunteers will match them with a teacher who is available to host the volunteer in his/her classroom at that time.
Volunteers will need their own transportation - Brick Elementary is currently not accessible through the public transportation system.
