The Washington Urban Debate League, a branch of the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues, is excited to continue our competitive season for middle and high school students. This program, free for students at publicly funded educational institutions, gives students a competitive outlet to speak and find their voice, as well as discuss and research current events.
On March 18th, 2017, we will continue our competitive schedule at Wilson High School It is crucial that we find judges to listen and provide feedback to the students to help them practice what they've learned during after-school meetings and practices.
No experience is required! We provide judge training during breakfast for any first-time judges. All you need is the ability to take notes, and the desire to help D.C. public school students learn and grow.
The time commitment is approximately 8:00 AM-5 PM. Breakfast and lunch are provided, and half days are available. All judges are asked to complete a background check online (good for three years, takes 5 minutes to fill out), found here:

About us:
The Washington Urban Debate League is expanding its programming into new schools. In order to expand our competitive schedule and allow more students to participate, we will need more judges and coaches. Your participation is critical to our ability to better serve our students as they develop their critical thinking, research, writing, and advocacy skills.
Extensive, peer-reviewed research proves that participation in competitive policy debate improves students in every metric you can imagine--test scores and grades, attendance and graduation rates, college admissions and graduation, as well as giving them the self-confidence to dream big. Volunteers like you are crucial to making this a reality.
