Penn Highlands Community Nurses offers opportunities that allow volunteers to choose a role in which they are comfortable and fulfilled.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Administrative Volunteers: Provide support in the office: filing, preparing mailings, assisting with admission packets, data input and special projects.
11th Hour Volunteers: Help ensure that no patient dies along by being present at the final stages of a patient's life.
Direct Patient Care Volunteers: Visit patients and families at home, nursing homes, assisted living facilities. Pay a friendly visit; relieve a family caregiver for the afternoon; accompany a patient to the beauty salon, grocery store or social event; read aloud; listen to memories; be the high point of someone's day.
Memory Bear Volunteers: Memory Bears are created by Penn Highlands Community Nurses volunteers from clothing provided by the family of a deceased patient. This provides the family members and friends with a visible, happy memory of their loved one.
Alternative/ Complementary Care Volunteers: aromatherapy, Reiki, therapeutic touch
Massage volunteers: Volunteers with current massage therapy license provide friendly touch and massage to patients and their families.
Bereavement Volunteers: Visits, phone calls, support groups, memorial services and send bereavement mailings.
Adult Day Volunteers: Adult Day improves the quality of life for adults who have a physical or mental impairment that may be at risk for long- term placement. When an individual is no longer able to stay at home without supervision, Adult Day provides a safe and comfrotable environment with opportunities for meaningful activities, new friendships, and companionship. Penn Highlands Community Nurses is in seach of volunteers who will help with structured activities such as music, crafts, games, or cooking. They may read to clients or help with a puzzle. They assist with meal prep by dropping off empty containers from the previous meal while picking up meals prepared at Penn Highlands Elk.
