Crafting volunteers are our creators and makers who connect with our patients in a very special way. Your homemade gift brings joy and comfort to a patient who has entered the final stages of life. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to work at home and still impact the life of others.

This indirect care activity is perfect for groups. (If you’d like to engage in direct care activities, you must be 18 years of age and orientation is required.)

Duties Include: Crafting, sewing and making items for our patients such as afghans, shawls, lap blankets, dignity bags, robes and night gowns, stuffed animals and memory items.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Hospice volunteers are a crucial part of the hospice experience and are valued by patients and families for the personal touch they bring to an emotional process.

By becoming a hospice volunteer, you experience the personal fulfillment of impacting another person's life at a critical time. Hospice volunteers report feeling that they are making a contribution to the community and doing a service they would hope others would do for them in their time of need.

Volunteers help hospice patients in a variety of ways.

  • They can provide support to patients and families
  • Veteran-to-veteran support
  • Bereavement support to families
  • Reiki, yoga, healing arts
  • Pet Visits with a dog certified through Canine Good Citizenship or similar certification
  • Share their talents- music and crafting
  • Lend support in our administrative office

We have patients throughout Northeast Ohio, including the Greater Canton and Greater Cleveland areas.

Staff and volunteers are available to pick up hand-crafted items you would like to donate to Absolute Hospice patients. For information, contact Margaret Mullen, Volunteer Coordinator, at (330) 491-6421 or margaret.mullen@abshealth.com.

Time Commitment: Even if you have just one hour a month to share please consider joining Absolute Hospice and help us provide comfort, care, and compassion to those we serve during their final season of life.
