ORGANIZATION: LEARNING ALLY INC

Make reading materials accessible to those who are vision impaired or who have learning differences, like dyslexia. Learning Ally is a national nonprofit that helps students and adults get the books they need to succeed in school and beyond. Readers are needed for our Washington, DC Studio in Friendship Heights, DC (on the Red Line). Sit behind the mike in a professional studio and use special software to record books for students across the USA. Team members serve day, evening, weekend hours. SHIFTS HAVING THE MOST AVAILABILITY ARE 9AM AND EVENING HOURS UP TO 8:30PM. After a period of time volunteering from home may be an option. Ideal candidates will be able to read clearly and with expression. Attention to detail is important. No experience is necessary, and a training is provided. If a good fit, a six month commitment is requested due to the amount of training we provide.

Mission Statement

Our vision is for all people to have equal opportunities to learn. Our mission is to promote personal achievement when access and reading are barriers to learning by advancing the use of accessible and effective educational solutions.

Description

Today, more than 30 million students struggle to read. By fourth grade, 65% of them are reading below proficiency. With early detection and proven accommodations, we can make strides in alleviating these detrimental consequences. Learning Ally is a leading nonprofit education solutions organization that transforms the lives of early and struggling learners through proven solutions from Pre-K through high school, to help students reach their potential.

We understand that all people learn differently and may need options to achieve their full potential. We are dedicated to helping individuals grow and succeed academically when access and reading are barriers to their learning. We will succeed by partnering with our communities and being a champion for those we serve so they may have the most accessible and effective solutions to achieve their personal best.
