The ACF has been helping support orphans in Kenya since 2008. It is because of volunteers like you, the ACF continues to increase the amount of children served.
The tasks in the orphanage placement volunteers are involved in depend on what projects the orphanage are involved in at the time of their placement. There are always daily tasks that need to be performed and plenty of opportunity for volunteers to help create new exciting programs for the kids. It is important to look within yourself and share your knowledge with others, while others share their knowledge with you.
The orphanage placement is located near the town of Kitale Kenya. Volunteers currently serve at the Liyavo Children’s Home (orphanage) in Liyavo village. This is a larger orphanage with roughly 60 children. There are accommodations for volunteers at the orphanage. We prefer volunteers stay at the Liyavo Children’s Home Monday - Friday and return to the volunteer accommodations located next to Janet’s (the Program Director) home in Kaisagat on weekends. The Kaisagat accommodations allow volunteers the opportunity to relax and unwind before starting the next week.
In addition to the orphanage, there is an Academy /primary school affiliated with the Liyavo Children’s Home, where volunteers can teach. The caretakers of the orphanage speak English and will be able to assist you in getting accustomed to the orphanage.
Please note: You no not have to be Christian to participate in this program. Our programs are open to all without religious discrimination. The Liyavo Children’s Home itself is a Christian organization and there is church service on Sundays for the children and community. We ask that those who do no prescribe to the religion of the home to respect it and if you are not comfortable with attending service on Sundays, you are welcome to return to Janet’s home in Kaisagat on weekends.
Who can apply?
If you are fluent in English and 18 or older, you are eligible to participate in this program.
