NYS Mentoring Program is partnering with the Rome City School District and the Rome Chamber of Commerce to offer one-on-one volunteer mentors to area 4th graders at 3 different Elementary schools. Adults 18 years or older who can dedicate 1.5 hours per week are elibible. Mentors will meet with a child at their school from 3:15-4:45 pm weekly, at the same elementary school, with the same student until May 31st. A 2 hour traing session will be provided on January 25th from 3-5:00pm at the Rome School District offices 409 Bell Rd, Rome, NY. Mentoring sessions will begin February 8th and go through May 31st. Mentors will receive in-service training from NYS Mentoring program throughout the mentoring period. Fingerprinting and a background check is required at NO COST to mentors.

***Also just announced- The Utica City School District is now looking to collaborate with Utica Area residents to provide volunteer mentoring to students at Kernan Elementary School. The program structure will be the same as above. Start date to be determined soon.

To address the rising issue of hunger in Rome, NY, Mohawk Valley Community College is launching a volunteer project that will help cut back hunger in Rome and provide individuals with a fufilling community work experience.
