The Garden Connect program matches a volunteer with a family caregiver to help open the lines of communication and provide a connection to services. The volunteer inspires wellness through storytelling, rug weaving, aromatherapy, and social connection. A compassionate and empathetic spirit is the only requirement. The volunteer receives training that in turn will provide valuable self-care tools and supportive communication to help ease the stress of the family caregiver. A 'candy stripper’ if you will, the volunteer becomes additional support for each participating facility where the caregiver’s family is receiving care. Various locations throughout greater Pittsburgh; caregivers may opt to receive your support in their home. Volunteer training is required and provided by Hope Grows. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in supporting the well-being of others or students seeking needed hours for a health related practicum or internship.
