We are a volunteer run, community driven organization that recovers food that would otherwise be wasted from grocers and farmers markets and redistributes it to low income housing throughout Seattle. Most of our food pickups are very short, and in population dense areas, which makes them ideal for bike powered food rescue!
Seattle Food Rescue is one of approximately 30 bike powered food rescues in the United States. This particular opportunity is to adopt a food rescue pickup, along with several other volunteers throughout the week, to recover food that is nearing expiration and dropping it off to one of our housing partners. Most of our pickups are between 7 and 10 blocks, and right around 50 pounds. We also have summer opportunities for larger food rescues up to around 100 pounds. Your first pickup will be with a coordinator and/or another volunteer running the same pickup as you, at which point you're free to pick up any shift you'd like! Most are very flexible, and there are generally opportunities available 7 days a week. We have working professionals, students and retirees currently volunteering, so there's room for everyone. Feel free to reach out for more information at seattlefoodrescue@gmail.com!

Mission Statement
Seattle Food Rescue is a non-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington whose goal is to facilitate the transportation and redistribution of otherwise wasted food from businesses, to charities and agencies that serve hungry, unhoused, and low-income individuals.
Description
Seattle Food Rescue drives innovation by redefining perceptions around food waste and the redistribution of food for consumption by those in need. Our past and present activities have been fairly consistent since our program’s inception. Three concepts are key in achieving our mission’s objectives, and comprise the scope of our activities as an organization.
1. Sustainable redistribution of food assets from donor organizations to recipient organizations.
2. Education around the concept of food waste.
3. Feedback to donors and recipients to identify opportunities to mitigate food waste and through the analysis of retail operations and volunteer curated food rescue data.CAUSE AREAS
