Volunteers undertake most of the work with Visit San Pedro, the private non-profit destination management organization serving San Pedro and the LA Harbor and Palos Verdes Peninsula communities. Visit San Pedro is the local operational component of The Southern California Education, Tourism, & Cultural Organization (SoCal ETC), which brings cultural tourism to the region and shares our region's cultures internationally.
Opportunities are available in our Visitor Center at 600 S. Pacific Avenue, Downtown San Pedro greeting visitors and providing information on where to dine and what to see and do.
Some Visitor Specialists work around the waterfront, in downtown, and at special events providing information to visitors.
We also have opportunities in operations and publications. Write, take photos, draw, design pages and packages for our monthly magazine, San Pedro & Peninsula Visitor, help compile our calendar, maintain databases.
Visitor Specialists can learn to lead the tours we offer to groups. These include our most popular San Pedro History Tour, a Harbor Area Military History Tour, and an Area Nature Tour, among others in operation and being planned.
Visitor Specialists will also be involved in SoCal ETC's cultural tourism programs and activities that are now being planned. These include cultural immersion dinners and shows, tours, and international travel.
Potential volunteers need to come into the Visitor Center for a brief orientation about the organization and to see if it's a good fit for them, and attend a three-hour training class. Training is supplemented by our self-paced online learning system. Other training is provided on the job. And you'll get as much help as you need to learn all the jobs you want and to transition between jobs, if that's your desire.

Visit San Pedro-the region's Convention and Visitors Bureau-is the central organization promoting tourism and meetings in the Los Angeles Harbor and Palos Verdes Peninsula communities and Catalina Island. It serves visitor and event and meeting planner needs, markets the area worldwide, and provides a variety of information to visitors.
Its Visitor Center is a primary point of contact for visitors, as well as a place for newcomers and residents alike to find information about the area and its attractions and services. The Visitor Center also houses a small gallery that features a different exhibition every month highlighting the area through local artists.
