  • 6 people are interested

APPLICATIONS now DUE 2/4/19 Available here: http://www.berkeleyfreeclinic. org/medical-section/

Please email tc-coord-med@ berkeleyfreeclinic.org or bfcmedapps@berkeleyfreeclinic. org if you have any questions!

In particular, the Medical Section of the BFC provides the following services:

1) Basic primary healthcare for respiratory, UTI, ear, and dermatological concerns

2) Screening, counseling, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections

3) Tuberculosis testing and tetanus/flu vaccinations

We are looking to expand our staffing and service to the community by training a cohort of medics. Please have a thorough understanding of the medic training process and overall time commitment before you apply.

Although the BFC is made up entirely of volunteers, the responsibilities of members are akin to a part time job. Full participation in the Medical section and overall clinic can average at least 15 hours per week (21+ hours per week during training). Give considerable thought as to how you will balance the training and Clinic requirements with your current commitments.

Checkout the application here: http://www.berkeleyfreeclinic.org/medical-section/ (bottom of page) & attend a volunteer info session the 3rd Monday of every month at 7:30pm.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Berkeley Free Clinic is to empower individuals and communities by providing accessible, client-centered health services and information. Since the Clinic opened, there has been an ever-present, albeit dynamic, need for its services as social conditions have undergone shifts and changes. It has become something of an icon in the area, and has served countless thousands in a variety of ways during its 45-year history. Its founding principles and structures survive to this day:

Description

All services at the BFC emphasize education, self-knowledge, and increasing awareness and access to appropriate resources. Whenever possible, our goal is to demystify health care and other human services, both for the volunteer members of the Clinic and for clients. We believe that individuals and communities should be educated and empowered with regard to their health care. In practice, this means that we emphasize education and offer referrals to help meet any needs that are outside the scope of our services. We attempt to include our clients in their own care by inviting their input and observations, and by fully describing possible solutions to their concerns.
