ORGANIZATION: Community Home Builders

Past Clients' Homes
We will partner to brainstorm about creating awareness around our affordable housing programs!

CHB seeks up to 2 volunteers with experience in team-building and counseling to assist in forming positive group dynamics with our new home construction group (self help home owners). We envision 2-5 hours of volunteering a week on saturdays to greet home owners and encourage morale, coupled with a quarterly meeting between our Team Building Leaders and the entire group to discuss how group dynamics are, and to trouble shoot any reoccuring problems as well as provide encouragement and counsel as they work through the program. This commitment would be year-long and can have some flexibility in regards to start time, but will need consistent hours so that home-owners can depend on the coaching, counseling and mediation of these volunteers throughout the building of their homes.

Mission Statement

To build quality affordable housing, develop ownership, create equity and foster skills for low and moderate income families and individuals while helping rural Oregon communities thrive by working in collaboration with public and private partners.

Description

Community Home Builders is a Non-profit located in McMinnville, Oregon. We are focussed on serving rural communities. For the past 25 years we have developed equity, skills and home-ownership opportunities for low-moderate income families and individuals through the use of financial savings and development programs, and our mutual self-help home ownership program. Through our mutual self-help program, families work with us and a cohort of 5-12 families to build one anothers houses. At the end of the process they have affordable, high quality, energy-efficient homes and a stable place to live. We firmly believe in the benefits that home ownership can bring including improved academic and occupational performance as well as civic engagement. We love the communities we serve and are excited for for what lies ahead!
