Volunteer to teach technology in your community!
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Community Technology Network (CTN) and Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA) have partnered to ensure that 75% of the residents at three affordable housing sites are connected to the internet at home and have a basic understanding of how to use the Internet, computer, and other digital devices as life-enriching tools. Residents are eligible for a free refurbished computer when they show they have these skills.
CTN will provide workshops to develop your tech teaching skills and help you feel comfortable working with new computer users.
VOLUNTEER ROLES AND DESCRIPTION
We are looking for volunteers who can consistently assist with drop-in hours assist Digital Literacy classes, sub for other volunteers, and/or assist with event planning and resident engagement.
Some digital skills you may help teach include:
- Communicating by email and Skype
- Finding information on the internet and access essential services online
- Developing online social networks
- Using tablets and smartphones
- Producing and sharing creative projects
- Protect their personal data and be safe online
- Have fun with computers and the internet
Some volunteer roles include:
- Drop-In Digital Help: Be present during a consistent time every week/month and available for computer/device-related questions
- Training Assistance: Help the manager and trainer execute digital literacy classes (assist individuals during class, hand out materials, etc.)
- Subbing: Be on-call whenever another volunteer is out or on a need-basis
- Events: Assist with planning, setup, cleanup of related events
- Outreach and Resident Engagement: Assist in resident engagement efforts-- work with CTN and SAHA staff to let residents know about our digital literacy services, and other program-related events and/or material

Description
The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
