Urgent Need for California Licensed Rheumatologist
ORGANIZATION: The MAVEN Project - Medical Alumni Volunteer Expert Network
Please visit the new page to apply.
The MAVEN (Medical Alumni Volunteer Expert Network) Project has an urgent need for a rheumatologist licensed in California. The organization is a top notch example of solving the problem of how to improve access to quality healthcare, including specialties, to underserved populations without politicizing, by creating a corps of experienced volunteer physicians equipped with cutting edge telehealth technology to enable remote consultations, education, and mentoring.
The MAVEN Project team handles onboarding and provides malpractice coverage, making the experience 'plug and play’ for volunteers, many who are semi-retired or retired. Volunteers can participate at the pace and level they desire, whether it be 'lunch and learn’ sessions for clinic staff in areas of your expertise, mentoring clinic staff, or patient care taking as little as 4 hours/month. A little time commitment with a very big impact.

Mission Statement
We improve access to healthcare for underserved populations by linking our corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need.
Description
Rural and urban community health clinics are the core source of care for uninsured and underinsured individuals, Medicaid recipients, and people of all ages. Patients often suffer from poorly-treated chronic illnesses, contributing to avoidable mortality, morbidity, and health care costs.
Patients need physician specialists -- but clinics are often understaffed. Moreover, it's predicted that the United States will be short 130,000 physicians by 2025.
The MAVEN Project is a nonprofit organization that improves access to quality healthcare for underserved populations by linking its corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need. It recruits retired, semi-retired, and other interested physicians through medical school alumni associations to volunteer their expertise, utilizing telehealth technology to link volunteers to clinics and community health centers.
