Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps - help strengthen communities through a year of service.

Through full-time service opportunities in communities across the United States, Habitat AmeriCorps program members help homeowners achieve strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat AmeriCorps members can serve in leadership roles on active build sites or in local Habitat offices, assisting homeowners, volunteers and staff. Service positions are being added weekly.

Overview: This 11 month, full-time AmeriCorps position for which the member will receive a modest living allowance, education award, and valuable professional experience serving Honolulu Habitat and its Honolulu ReStore that serves communities members from across the island

Position Type: ReStore Development

Position Description: As a ReStore Development VISTA, you are integral part of helping fund the building of homes and better neighborhoods in our service area. This might include developing a ReStore-specific volunteer program that helps recruit, train, and recognize individual and group volunteers at the Honolulu ReStore. You’ll also be developing marketing and community outreach strategies to increase ReStore visibility in the communities, as well as developing a donor outreach plan to increase ReStore donations. With the projects you develop, you can give us a boost to significantly increase the number of families our affiliate is able to serve through our programs and construction projects

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a ReStore-specific volunteer recruitment, orientation, training and recognition plan that increases the amount of repeat volunteers serving in the ReStore. Develop a survey to assess the level of volunteer satisfaction with the orientation and training process, recognition of their services by the affiliate and feedback from the volunteer on their individual interaction with ReStore and HHH Staff. Enhance the ReStore volunteer directory database to capture volunteer data that is ReStore specific.
  2. Develop marketing and outreach strategies/materials designed to increase visibility of the ReStore in the community and increase unrestricted revenue as a result of increased purchases and donations. Develop a media directory database. Develop materials which are relevant to the various media outlets sourced in the media directory database.
  3. Develop ReStore donor outreach plan to increase recurring donations. Create a ReStore donor directory database of local businesses and community partners that would be ideal donors.
  4. Craft new or updated ReStore procedures and policies to be in line with standard ReStore operating procedures that have been identified as best practices.
  5. Similarly develop funding opportunities or partnerships that support volunteer engagement and store development.
  6. Develop ReStore recycling programs and process designed to create a new revenue stream for ReStore, reduce the amount of waste ending in our landfills and reduce the annual costs of disposal services.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements.
  • Some travel is required for this position so member must be able to utilize their own vehicle or public transit to get to required meetings and events if company vehicle is unavailable
  • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word/Excel)
  • Knowledgeable about the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Public speaking experience preferred
  • Experience working with volunteer or teaching/group facilitation experience helpful
  • Strong research skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Experience working as a member of a team
  • Retail experience preferred
  • A second language is highly desirable, with preferred languages being Japanese or Korean
  • Project management experience helpful
  • Marketing experience is highly desirable
  • Social media platforms
  • Website design/management desirable
