ORGANIZATION: The Humane Society of Rome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To serve as the team leader who is responsible for managing overall recruitment and management of volunteers serving Humane Society of Rome (HSR). To work cohesively with both the fundraising and the shelter manager. Support the mission of HSR.

Volunteer Coordinator:

  • Responsible for providing shelter staff with appropriate placement of volunteers including but not limited to animal care, fundraising, educational endeavors, foster care, transportation, building and grounds needs, and community events.
  • Responsible for recruiting and scheduling volunteers.
  • Maintain effective relationships with community volunteer organizations.
  • Maintain close relationship with animal care team to assist with volunteer needs for animal care and assist when volunteer concerns arise.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer and community service volunteer procedures.
  • Update and maintain volunteer and community service volunteer training handouts and materials.
  • Coordinate volunteer of the month and quarter profile.
  • Prepare monthly informational emails to volunteers as needed to keep abreast of shelter needs and efforts being made.
  • Prepare quarterly volunteer newsletter.
  • Coordinate and lead volunteer meetings (at minimum quarterly).
  • Prepare and maintain volunteer information including but not limited to name, address, volunteer interests, and availability utilizing website and/or other tools.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, HSR special events, and in service and community workshops as needed.

THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF ROME IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION SERVING THE MOHAWK VALLEY AND SURROUNDING AREAS SINCE 1956. WE PROVIDE SHELTER, FOOD AND LOVING CARE TO ALL UNWANTED CATS AND DOGS. WE PROMOTE THE ADOPTION OF RESCUED, ABANDONED, ABUSED OR NEGLECTED ANIMALS INTO SAFE LIFELONG HOMES.

SOME OF THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES WE PROVIDE INCLUDE:

  • A SAFE HAVEN FOR ANIMALS IN TRANSITION.
  • SERVE AS ADVOCATES FOR ANIMALS.
  • WORK TO END ANIMAL OVERPOPULATION, CRUELTY, ABUSE AND NEGLECT.
  • EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON COMPASSION AND RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS ANIMALS.
  • EDUCATE SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN ON THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS.
  • LOBBY TO SUPPORT ANIMAL RIGHTS LEGISLATION.
