Hello amazing volunteer nation! NAMI Northern Nevada is looking for a kind-hearted person, organization or business to volunteer a small space in South Reno where we can conduct a Connections Support Group twice a month in the evening. It can be anywhere where there is a small bit of privacy like a medical office, church, business, store or even a coffee shop. Our Connections Support Group take place around Washoe County and helps people with mental illnesses like depression, bipolar, anxiety, ADHD, and schizophrenia come together in a stigma-free environment and find support and advocacy. The mission of NAMI Northern Nevada is to advocate for a life of quality and dignity by providing education, resources and emotional support to families and those affected by mental illness. We strive to end discrimination and stigma for all persons affected by these illnesses through broader education and collaboration with the whole community.
Description
At NAMI Northern Nevada, we provide education, support and advocacy to individuals living with mental illness right here in Washoe County. We work with people who struggle with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the hundreds of other forms of mental illness. Our support groups are always free of charge and operate independently of a person’s ability to pay. Through our Family-to-Family groups we provide a forum for family members struggling with mental illness to find support in a stigma free environment. We do this because we care about our community, and reject wholeheartedly any form of stigma placed on those who live with mental illness.
