And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
NeighborLink Indianapolis is a nonprofit that provides free home reapirs to senior homeowners and homeowenrs with disabilities. We provide repairs in 11 different categories but need a volunteer who understands drywalling, floor construction and related skills. This volunteer would use that knowledge to work with a pool of volunteers and paid resources to repair of walls, ceilings and floors in older, poorly maintained homes.
Activities would include assessing repair requests from people in need, working alone or with a small team to fix the problem, assuring that work gets done and clients are satisfied. You will work with direction of NeighborLink's professional services director. The total volume of requests is about 25 small repair projects per year - typically falling plaster from water leaks, rotted floors under toilets, or holes in walls for various reasons. You can choose to work on as many or as few as you have time for. The team leader will let you know when there is work to be done and you let him know if you can help.
Objective: Allow homeowners to remain safely in their own homes by maintaining the habitibility of their houses. You do that by providing wall, ceiling and floor repair services.
Time Commitment: whatever you have available and want to commit. The best approach is to talk with us to understand the work, then come work one project with a team member and see if you like the work. Then we can talk about frequency and schedule to meet your needs. Thanks for considering. We really need help.
