The Maryland Science Center’s education department is looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to facilitate our hands-on exhibit spaces. This position is suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with people, especially families and school-age children, and possess an interest in STEM learning or informal education. Exhibit Facilitator volunteers are available on the floor to offer informal interpretation of various exhibits. MSC exhibits cover a wide-range of topics including astronomy, dinosaurs, physics, electricity, earth sciences, the human body and more!


  • Staff MSC exhibit spaces
  • Answer questions, explain exhibits and offer guidance for visitors
  • Continually research, read and learn to further personal background knowledge
  • Ensure visitors are interacting and learning safely

Required Skills:

  • Interest in STEM learning and/or informal, hands-on learning
  • Curiosity
  • Friendly, out-going demeanor
  • Patience working with school aged children

Training: Training is provided by Public Programs and Education department supervisors and peers.

Time Requirements: One shift at least once a month (Tuesday-Sunday) for a minimum of three months. Volunteers who wish to donate more time may be interested in the Science Educator volunteer positions. Exhibit Facilitator volunteers may request to work towards the responsibilities of Level I or II Science Educator positions.
