YOU can positively impact the lives of hundreds of children while encouraging them to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math, by volunteering for FIRST Robotics. There are more than 16 tournaments in December 2016-March 2017 and many volunteers are needed - no experience required!
FIRST allows students to compete with robots in a fun environment where they can apply STEM concepts to design a robot and research a scientific topic of interest.
Some of the volunteer jobs are:
- REFEREE...Watch robot games and tally scores
- JUDGE...Interview and evaluate teams, choose award recipients
- ROBOT INSPECTOR...Inspect team robots for safety/rule violations
- TECH ADVISOR...Assist with technical setup and maintenance, troubleshoot connection issues
Many other non-technical roles are also available.

The theme of this year’s competition is Animal Allies.

The charter of the SASTEMIC initiative is to bring together those in the San Antonio region that are interested in and providing support for K-PhD initiatives with the intent on growing technical talent. We will work to improve essential competencies in science, technology, engineering and math-related programs, activities, competitions, and awareness. This support includes funding for programs, tools, materials, grants, and stipends for teachers and mentors assisting worthy educational activities by getting involved in programs and competitions, as well as providing funding to assist with participation.
