NeighborLink Indianapolis is a small nonprofit providing free home repairs to low-income seniors and homeowners with disabilities. Our only mission is to allow seniors to remain safely in their own homes with a measure of dignity. We need your help working with businesses, churches and schools across the city who work with NeighborLink providing volunteer groups. Your responsibilities would include maintaining our list of partner organizations, initiating or maintaining contact with each, developing new contacts and groups, working with NeighborLink staff to schedule appropriate groups for various volunteer projects, and managing a lot of the communications involved. These groups are the life blood of our organization and you will be the key to managing those relationships.

The would like to have 2 or 3 people in this role as mutual backups. New volunteer event planners will work with an experienced planner until comfortable with the process.

Objective: Manage relationships and coordinate activities with our school, church and business partners to bring volunteers for community service to NeighborLink's senior home repair program.

Time Commitment: Min 2 hours per week but your initiative might substantially increase that time.

Mission Statement

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help older adults and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

Description

We focus on home repairs that enable the homeowner to age in place safely, stabilize the home for years to come, and provide an improved appearance for the neighborhood at large. Many of the repairs we provide would be able to be done by the homeowner if they had the means or physical ability. By using volunteers we are able to help the homeowner as well as provide that intimate experience of truly being the hands and able-body for someone else.

Most older adults want to age in the most affordable home-the one they own. Aging in place allows older adults some level of autonomy and dignity over their own health and decisions. It allows many to remain within communities they’ve been a part of for decades. Social determinants of health, particularly including the ability to keep their home safe and accommodating to their physical needs, are among some of the most challenging barriers to aging in place.
