Interested in working with Google, AmeriCorps VISTA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to fight poverty in the United States? The Google Code Corps is for you! The Google Code Corps is a partnership between the three previously mentioned organizations aimed at empowering youth to break the cycle of poverty by giving them access to a computer science education, regardless of whether they can afford one. We have impacted over 330 youth since our pilot in April, and we will be continuing our successes into 2017. We are looking for volunteers to help us tutor underprivileged children how to code via Google’s CS First coding curriculum, which is run on MIT's "Scratch" programming language. Volunteers will be following the lead of either veteran volunteers or staff, with the opportunity to be promoted to lead a class of their own later in the cohort.
This opportunity is located in South San Francisco and Pacifica, CA. We will be teaching children aged 8-14 the basics of computer science. Volunteers can expect a time commitment of approx. 3 hours a week for 3 months. Classes are held weekday afternoons.
Experience with youth is valued higher than computer science experience. Both are preferred, but neither are required for this opportunity. You will be trained and coached by my Google Code Corps team. Our summer and fall cohorts have been extremely successful, and we are looking for to fill our winter cohort, which starts in January. Please send resumes to pchan@theclubs.org or send a private message if you have questions that cannot be answered by rereading this opportunity's description. Thanks!
