Volunteer Help Wanted: Dynamic Education Program Docent

Education Docent

The Stamford History Center seeks a docent to partner with its Education Director to present three enrichment programs to Stamford elementary school students. The programs mesh with the district’s social studies curriculum, focused on geography and history. Programs usually take place in the schools’ classrooms during the academic year, about once a week for two hours. A small per class stipend is paid. Please send resume and cover letter to education@stamfordhistory.org.

The specific days and dates and hours will be confirmed with the school participants and education program coordinator.

Mission Statement

The Stamford History Center, also known as the Stamford Historical Society, is an educational and research institution, whose primary functions are to collect, preserve, conserve, interpret, and exhibit materials relating to Stamford, Connecticut and New England.

Description

Our resources include a Research Library, a Museum with changing exhibits, a photo archive, and an extensive collection of artifacts. We offer school programs and tours of our 1699 Hoyt-Barnum House. The History Center is dedicated to community enrichment through the presentation of exhibits, displays, special events, demonstrations, and participatory programs that have as their objective a population enlightened by an understanding of the past and committed to an objective vision for the future. As the Stamford History Center, we have a responsibility to all citizens of our community to preserve the varied experiences that reflect our cultural heritage. Our facility is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 4.
