ORGANIZATION: Make-A-Wish Minnesota

Description

In this role, you will provide valuable and critical support to the Foundation’s development events team, and will execute tasks individually and as part of the team. The core purpose of the Make-A-Wish Foundation Internship Program is to provide a "real-life" work experience for interns.

Location

Make-A-Wish(r) Minnesota, 615 First Avenue NE, Suite 415, Minneapolis, MN 55413. Interns are required to work out of the Minneapolis office for the majority of the internship.

Responsibilities

Special Events Assistance

To assist with logistics related to Make-A-Wish events e.g. Wish Ball, Wine, Women and Wishes, Walk For Wishes, Seasons of Wishes, etc.

Manage data entry processes and maintain accurate inventory of Wish Ball Auction items

Solicit local businesses for potential donations, as assigned

Compile and send acknowledgement letters to auction item donors

Assist with pick-up of donations, as schedule allows

Administrative/Internal Communications

To attend team meetings and be willing to contribute to other team activities as requested.

To help accurately maintain the Foundation’s database of members and supporters.

Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, customer relationship, and success in cold calling and recruitment efforts

Administrative and computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Demonstrate the ability to analyze and solve problems, and suggest appropriate solutions

Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes

The ability to manage time and projects with self-direction is critical to this position

Proven skills in research, organization, prioritization, time management, and attention to detail

Personal Outcomes

Internship candidates will be trained in several aspects of development and event planning. Interns will gain direct "hands-on" experience in the aforementioned areas while developing an understanding of the functions that support a non-profit organization. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist the Foundation in fulfilling its mission of granting wishes to Minnesota children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. References may be supplied on the completion of a successful internship period.

Compensation, Dates and Time Commitment

The internship is unpaid and requires a weekly commitment of approx 10 hours. Spring internship dates are mid-January through May. Priority will be given to candidates available to also be present at The Wish Ball on Saturday, May 20, and set-up the day before. The hours are flexible, and will be designated in coordination with the internship supervisor.

With help from volunteers in areas of wish granting, fundraising, and administrative support, we make more than 200 wishes come true in Minnesota every year, showing these courageous kids that anything is possible.
