Are you looking to mentor students in STEM in the Kansas City area? FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is always looking for mentors to share their knowledge and experience with students pursuing a STEM career.
KC STEM Alliance is a not- f or-profit f ounded in 2011 that connects education, industry and the community to create a STEM workforce that is diverse, innovative and sustainable. The KC STEM Alliance operates with the direct objective to provide STEM education to the entire KC area through FIRST and PLTW (Project Lead The Way) programs. If you are interested in working with a FIRST team, the KC STEM Alliance can help you find a team that could definitely use your time and assistance.
There are four FIRST programs currently available to students K-12:
FIRST Lego League Jr. - Grades K-4 (Early Elementary School) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRPkfOcfYSw
FIRST Lego League - Grades 4-8 (Elementary and Middle School) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qeBFeFyYp0
FIRST Tech Challenge - Grades 7-12 (Middle and High School) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_e5r1lXraY
FIRST Robotics Competition - Grades 9-12 (High School) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZXngCu99rs
Not only do teams always need mentors, but competitions and events always need volunteers ready to put in the time to give these students a wonderful learning experience.
If you are interested in being a part of FIRST in the Kansas City area, please contact Collin Robinett (crobinett@firstinspires.org) or Laura Bauer (bauerlb@kcstem.org) and the KC STEM Alliance will get you with someone who could use your help.
