ORGANIZATION: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest VA

  • 9 people are interested

BBBS and the VTCRC have partnered to launch a mentoring program in August 2016. Forty sixth grade children come to the VTCRC and meet with their Bigs one day each week from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. for one year. Bigs make a huge impact in the lives of children, and we invite you to connect to this community by volunteering to be a Big in the VTCRC Mentoring Program.

Becoming a Big not only changes a child’s life, it changes yours too. Our mentoring relationships are professionally supported and your Match Support Specialist will be there for you every step of the way. We will provide you with events to attend with your match as well as a list of things to do. Our agency offers you the opportunity to network and grow professionally with training and Bigs only events. Take the challenge and become a Big today!

Mission Statement

Description

Adults 40 and older bring magic and fun to the life of a elementary-school aged child and in doing so, discover the child in themselves again!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest VA's Protect and Respect program is designed specifcally for seniors aged 50 and older who want to bring some magic into the life of a child! Our seniors are matched with a Little Brother or a Little Sister in need of a special friend to help them through the year. Our senior Big Brothers or Big Sisters choose to volunteer at a school site, or in the community.
At the school, Bigs may work on homework with the child, play board games, make a craft, or share a special lunch. In the community, Bigs and Littles may go to a movie, play baseball, bake cookies, or share in an activity they both enjoy. Bigs make a difference in the lives of children and in doing so discover the child in themeselves again!
