Advocates are specifically trained to be first responders to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and family violence. They provide information and emotional support to survivors as well as survivors' support systems.
Advocates complete a 40-hour training in order to learn about the dynamics of abuse/violence, how to assist a survivor in safety planning, and how to provide crisis counseling. Training takes place on the evenings of March 2 nd, 7 th, 9 th and all day on March 4 th, 5 th, 11 th, and 12th, 2017.
Advocates sign up for on-call shifts to respond immediately to the Emergency Dept. and meet survivors in a timely manner. Transportation reimbursement is provided.
