The Community Service Society of NY has a consumer assistance project in partnership with NY State of Health to assist consumers with the tax forms associated with the ACA. The tax helpline seeks volunteers from mid-January through April 2018 to answer calls from consumers related to these tax forms. Volunteers will participate in a three day training in advance of taking calls.
Our helpline will be open from 9:00am-4:00pm, Monday through Friday. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to about 7-8 hours per week, either for one full day or two 4-hour shifts per week. We may consider applicants with less availability.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to live calls on the Helpline relating to the new tax forms and rules
- Under the supervision of the Helpline Supervisor, provide information, referrals, and advocacy to callers
- Maintain thorough case records of services provided, advice and/or referrals
- Other responsibilities identified by Supervisor
Preferred Skills :
- A minimum of one year experience providing assistance to consumers
- Experience advocating on the behalf of consumers
- Proficient with MS Office and Google Chrome
- Ability to write clearly, concisely, persuasively and keep detailed notes of all communications
- Research and database management skills preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Competency in languages other than English strongly preferred
- Able to attend full day of training on Friday January 12, 2018
