A local man with legal blindness is interested in visiting his family members in Hartford and Waterbury one or two times per month but he needs transportation and arm/arm door/door assistance which makes many ride services unavailable for him. If you have a few hours per week and the strong desire to help a neighbor and make a new friend, this is a great opportunity to start being a volunteer to the blind.

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

  • a desire to help others;

  • a pleasant demeanor;

  • a good reading/speaking voice;

  • average reading skills;

  • organizational or planning abilities;

  • a good driving record;

  • a clear criminal history;

  • two references

  • access to a car with proof of insurance;

  • a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
