Telamon's ESL program focuses on assisting customers with gaining the English skills necessary to obtain, maintain or upgrade employment. Through the English in the Workplace Program (EWP) customers learn English in an ESL manner with employability driven coursework.
Assist the ESL facilitators with teaching English to customers including one on one tutoring, small group conversational skills, reading and writing prep and computer software assistance. Other duties may include prepping materials for classes and modifying lesson plans for various customers.
We would ask that volunteers dedicate at least 1 class per week (2 hours) so that the ESL teachers can plan accordingly. Volunteers who wish to prep have more flexible options from a minimum of 1/2 hour a week to several hours per week.
Current students hail from varied cultural backgrounds including Haitians, Mexicans, Brazilians, Koreans, Chinese, Peruvians, and others. Ages range from 18-60 and both males and females are present.
All volunteers must complete 1 hour informational session.
