Telamon Greeter
Volunteer Ivelisse always has a warm smile to greet customers! When not welcoming people into Telamon, ahe assists with data entry and basic office assistant duties!

Telamon's ESL program focuses on assisting customers with gaining the English skills necessary to obtain, maintain or upgrade employment. Through the English in the Workplace Program (EWP) customers learn English in an ESL manner with employability driven coursework.

Assist the ESL facilitators with teaching English to customers including one on one tutoring, small group conversational skills, reading and writing prep and computer software assistance. Other duties may include prepping materials for classes and modifying lesson plans for various customers.

We would ask that volunteers dedicate at least 1 session per week (2 hours) so that the ESL teachers can plan accordingly. Volunteers who wish to prep have more flexible options from a minimum of 1/2 hour a week to several hours per week.

Current students hail from varied cultural backgrounds and have different levels of English from Beginning ESL Literacy to Advanced ESL. Ages range from 18-60 and both males and females are present.

All volunteer sessions to occur on Telamon premises though virtual sessions are a possibility.

All volunteers must complete 1 hour informational session and a background check.

Lots of other volunteer opportunities open as well so if this time doesn't work for you, contact us to see what else is available! For more information about Telamon Corporation, please visit us at www.telamon.org or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/telamonmdde.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to teach English in your community!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide educational services that lead to better jobs, better lives, and better communities.

Description

Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Telamon-Transition Resources Corporation (TRC) is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit organization that provides educational services through early childhood and family support programs, workforce and career services, and housing and financial empowerment services to nearly 24,000 individuals a year in eleven states.

Since our beginnings in 1965 as the Migrant Project of the North Carolina Council of Churches, we have grown into a large, stable organization with diverse funding from federal and state governments, as well as substantial partnerships with private foundations. Our early childhood and family support programs span six states. We became a HUD-certified National Intermediary in the Housing Counseling sector, and we provide community action services through CSBG-funded projects in West Virginia and North Carolina.

In 2014, Telamon began providing financial literacy services to families and staff in our Delaware Head Start programs through an innovative partnership with the State of Delaware's $tand By Me(tm) program. In 2016, our Governing Board and executive leadership set a strategic goal for growth by embedding financial empowerment for customers and staff into all our lines of business.

Our organizational growth is based on the positive outcomes our customers achieve.
