Emmanuel Hospice is a very special, growing, faith-based, non-profit hospice located on the West side of Grand Rapids. We are a close knit team and our staff, volunteers, and patients are like FAMILY to us! Our patients ALWAYS come first. We serve patients all over West Michigan in private homes and in facilities. We were created as a collaboration of 4 retirement communities: Saint Ann’s, Porter Hills, Clark, and Sunset. We are also supported by the Carmelite Sisters of St. Ann's Home.
We are currently looking for Life Story volunteers to interview our patients. Life Story volunteers interview patients about their lives, write the patient's story, and provide a written keepsake of a patient’s life story for family members. We provide training on how to conduict the interview, ask questions, and create the story. Interviews are devised of questions from the BeRemembered.com website and responses are recorded either on paper or directly on BeRemembered.com. The goal of the life story volunteer is to give patients an opportunity to share their story, and provide companionship, purpose, and facilitation of grief through reminiscing. The purpose of the life story volunteer is also to give loved ones an opportunity to learn about, reminisce, and grieve the patient. We think our volunteers benefit too - it is fascinating to listen to these stories and learn about history directly from eyewitnesses!
We welcome volunteers with an array of talents and skills including students. No experience needed- WE WILL TRAIN YOU! Volunteers are required to complete a background check, a TB test, COVID vaccination, and an orientation. Please contact Jackie at 616-719-0919, firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteer registration is also on our website www.emmanuelhospice.org.
Other open volunteer positions with us include:
Visitors for hospice patients in Grandville/Jenison area
Visitors for hospice patients at Porter Hills in Ada
Visitors for hospice patients at Clark Retirement in East Grand Rapids.
Thanks for your interest.
