The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, with the mission to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Greater Michigan Chapter, which services 60 counties throughout Michigan, seeks a highly motivated intern to assist with marketing and communications related tasks with the goal of increasing public awareness for the chapter, events, programs and services. Fields of study that apply to this internship include marketing, communications, public relations, non-profit management and media studies.
This 12-week Internship is based in our Grand Rapids, MI office and will begin in January and run through the beginning of April (dates flexible) Interns are expected to work 15-20 hours a week, flexible schedule within 9-5 office hours. May be for course credit. This is an unpaid position.
Responsibilities include
- Assist in the updating of our Greater Michigan Chapter website (alz.org/gmc), working within our CMS platform’s structure
- Assist in developing and contributing to public relations and marketing activities, including interviewing and crafting caregiver testimonials/stories, publicity materials and digital collateral
- Collaborate on ideas for social media and e-mail marketing posts
- Assist with updating and creating event-related materials using design programs
- Maintain up-to-date records on media impressions and media contacts
- Other tasks as requiredÂ
Minimum requirements
- Experienced with social media marketing on platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
- Highly proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher) and Adobe Create Suite. Able to quickly learn additional programs, as necessary (RedDot CMS and Luminate Online). Experience Adobe Suite including InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat is preferred
- Excellent and creative written and oral communication skills
- Incredible attention to detail, excelling in correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but enjoy the collaborative opportunities that exist within a team environment
- Preferred: Experience with visual forms of communication (including graphics) to result in improved audience interactions

The Alzheimer’s Association - Greater Michigan Chapter, was founded in 1981. We are a private, non-profit, voluntary health organization and one of over 80 chapters across the United States. The Greater Michigan Chapter covers 60 counties. Offices are in Southfield (headquarters), Alpena, Flint, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Midland and Traverse City. Services are available to more than 140,000 individuals and their families who have Alzheimer's disease or other related dementias.
