Join Natural Restorations, Keep It Wild Co., & Friends of the Tonto National Forest as we team up to remove trash from the Lower Salt River.

This is a water and land cleanup; we are looking for volunteers on foot to collect trash along the riverbanks and volunteers in kayaks, paddle boats, and canoes to collect trash in the water.

Clubs and groups welcome! Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Let us know if you are interested in kayaking down the river picking up trash floating in the water and along the riverbanks. Arizona Outback Adventures is supplying us with some tandem (two person) inflatable kayaks, life jackets, and professional kayak guides for safety and paddling instruction.

We have a limited number of kayaks available so let me know if you would like us to reserve a seat for you. Keep in mind they are tandem kayaks so you will be kayaking with another volunteer if you don’t register for a kayak with a friend, but don’t worry, our volunteers are super friendly! If you prefer to stay on dry land, that’s totally fine!

Sign-in: 8:00 a.m.

What to bring: work gloves, *water bottle

*In an effort to reduce the use of plastic bottles, please bring a refillable water bottle with you. We will have large water coolers on site to refill.

What to wear for land cleanup: long pants, closed toe sturdy shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen

What to wear for water cleanup: wear clothing that can get wet; expect to get at least your seat and feet wet, sunscreen

Tonto Pass: You do not need to purchase a Tonto Pass to participate in the cleanup from 8AM to Noon. If you plan to stay after that, please plan accordingly and purchase a Tonto Pass.

Location:

67 S. Higley Road, STE 103-118, Gilbert, AZ 85296, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to remove trash, graffiti from outdoor recreation and wilderness areas, revitalize natural areas through replanting projects, and enrich the lives of military veterans and other community members.

Description

We remove trash, graffiti and anything foreign to the environment from outdoor recreation and wilderness areas throughout the state of Arizona. We replant burn scar areas by salvaging cacti that would otherwise be destroyed on construction sites and we transport them to burn scars where our team replants them. We provide contract work to Military Veterans on our Dedicated Restoration Team and host volunteer events for the community, including youth volunteers.

We have a passion for nature and we believe outdoor restorations and education ensures everyone will be able to enjoy outdoor recreation and wilderness areas. We approach every project with a commitment to long-term change and making lasting impacts in communities across the state.

We have removed over 1.5 million pounds of trash (791+ tons), planted over 53,500 trees, plants & cacti, and removed over 42,451 square feet of graffiti. We have provided over 17,400 hours of contract work to military veterans on our Dedicated Restoration Team. We have hosted over 107 volunteer events and completed over 141 restoration projects with our Dedicated Restoration Team.
