Rise UP

We are looking for students willing to learn from community leaders what it takes to run your own business through workshop trainings, then actually work to start these businesses from the ground up right here in Sulphur!

SC3 has begun a youth empowerment program for students. "Rise Up" is funded by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board Grant. The program includes six career modules each of which was formed to address a particular need in our community. In each module participants will engage in character development, vocational education and training, entrepreneurial income, service for the community, and advocacy towards systemic change. Participants will leave the program with a resume, letters of recommendation, academic knowledge, vocational skills, mentor relationships, a network of contacts in their particular field, access to a variety of certifications, opportunities for income, and a venue to make a long term difference.

In each of these modules we will be starting youth built community businesses. Module 1: Coffee Shop - Learn Business, Finance, & Job Readiness Module 2: Bike Repair Shop - Mechanics & Metal Work Module 3: Wood Shop/ Home Building - Drafting & Construction Module 4: Food Truck - Culinary, Hospitality, & Nutrition Module 5: Print Shop - Public Relations, Advertising, & Marketing Module 6: Babysitting Service - Childhood Health & Education We are only accepting 12 students in each module. The module trainings have already begun; contact us if you are interested in joining today!

Location:

501 E. Burton St., SULPHUR, LA 70663, US

Mission Statement

We serve people holistically and help meet physical, relational, spiritual, educational, and vocational needs and we do so as we deem appropriate without prejudice to race, gender, income, ability or disability, spiritual standing, education, or past history. Through all of our programs we seek to meet three main goals; building community, empowering those in need, and mobilizing the compassionate.

Description

The Sulphur Christian Community Coalition is a 501c3 non-profit corporation. In January 2010 it was created to foster collaboration among neighbors, various community agencies, local ministries, civic organizations, area schools and universities, small businesses, and city government in order to provide creative solutions to community challenges. Our goal is to become a strong, active social force for good as we work together to best serve the people of Sulphur who are in need. Our desire is to bring holistic revitalization to the lives and environments of Sulphur through relational, spiritual, physical, educational, and vocational empowerment. We focus on building community, empowering those in need, and mobilizing the compassionate. This is done by building authentic relationships, insisting that those we serve be part of the solution, and engaging the community in our efforts. Everything that is done through SC3 is for God’s glory and fame.
