Global Healing, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Berkeley, CA is seeking a qualified Infection Control Nurse/Nurse Educator with excellent Spanish language skills to lead a training program in Hospital Infection Control at the Public Hospital Roatan in Roatan, Islas de la Bahia, Honduras. Despite its busy tourist industry, Islas de la Bahia is a medically underserved area with a large indigent population. The only public hospital in the Islas de la Bahia is the Public Hospital Roatan, with 33 operational beds, which provides Emergency Medicine, Labor and Delivery, and limited medicine and surgery for the island population of appproximately 80,000. The Hospital Infection Control training program is expected to consist of 5 modules, 1-2 weeks in length, over 2 years. Contact with students will be maintained between training visits through phone, Skype and email. The training program will encompass a baseline assessment, development, formal adoption and implementation of improved procedures, training of hospital staff in both procedural tasks and monitoring of outcomes, and training of hospital staff to act as trainers for new personnel to ensure that the improvements are sustained. The Volunteer will lead the training and will work with the hospital staff to ensure their engagement and support for improvements.
