ACE of Central Virginia is a regional adult education program, serving Region 2000 (the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and the city of Lynchburg). We provide a comprehensive adult education program for individuals at the lowest levels who may be illiterate, to providing foundational skills and adult secondary education skills. We also provide integrated education and training programs that allow participants to receive credentials and find employment. We provide English Language Acquisition classes, basic computer skills, financial literacy, and GED and Virginia Placement Test prep.

Our main need for volunteers is individuals who want to help improve the lives of our students through one-on-one tutoring with basic literacy skills and the acquisition of English. We also need volunteers in our adult education classes as well.

Our volunteer tutors are the heart of our program. Becoming a tutor will enable you to make a profound difference in a person’s life.

We train you and provide resources to tutor an adult student in reading, writing and English acquisition skills. Most of our tutor/student pairs meet for two hours a week at a mutually convenient time and place.

As a tutor, you will receive a rewarding experience knowing that you’ve helped someone achieve their goals and be more integrated within our community.
