If you care about the laws that affect your clean water, air and energy, and your children's and grandchildrens future, help us inform our elected officials on environmental issues.
Get to know your Florida elected officials representing your district. You will be teamed with an experienced Sierra Club member to visit your officials to explain Sierra position(s) on upcoming legislative issues. We will meet with them several times per year, mostly outside of legislative session.
During session, we will lobby for or against environmental bills. This mostly involves calling and emailing legislators about how proposed legislation will affect you & your family. Occasionally we will stage rallies for direct communication with the media.
This is intended to be a collaborative process rather than adversarial; build rapport, provide information, and identify how we can work to pass meaningful environmental legislation.
Volunteer skills range from ability to make phone calls and send emails. If you have writing &/or speaking skills, you can prepare written documentation for public communication. Video and media skills a real plus.
We can teach you about the environmental issues an mentor you.
Must live in Florida, preferably Northeast Florida; must join Sierra Club.
