Island City Opera is a small non-profit company providing grand opera in the city of Alameda, CA. The Volunteer Manager is an important part of the organization. The company has the following annual events which require various kinds of volunteers:
- Opera Production in January with 5 performances
- Opera Production in March with 5 performances
- Opera Fundraiser event in Spring
- Opera in the Park in Summer
- Opera Holiday party in December
Volunteer skills required range from light (ushers, concessions sales, box office support) to min-range (opera table seating, late seating, end of performance tidying) Occasionally there are volunteer efforts to put posters around town, or help with a mailing.
Currently Island City Opera uses a system called SIGNUP.com which provides the volunteer list, the volunteer jobs and procedures, and a schedule so that volunteers can sign up for a specific date and time they can assist.
The responsibility of the Volunteer Manager is to maintain the Volunteer list, email notices of volunteer needs, and insure the volunteer spots are filled for important events such as performances. The Volunteer Manager reports to the House Manager.
