About BELOVED STREETS OF AMERICA INC

Location:

5901 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, PO BOX 78341, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63178, US

Mission Statement

Bound by a united vision, Beloved Streets of America fosters collaboration among individuals, groups, and organizations and generates resources to revitalize and conserve streets bearing the Honorable name of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Description

To begin the process we are planning a park that will be dedicated to teaching about the Legacy of Dr. King where there can be speeches and rallies, food and music, and annual events to mobilize the community to spur on the additional planned transformations.

The revitalization will be in three phases: first low-cost efforts that can be done immediately to clean and secure the vacant buildings an d lots; secondly repair and renovate buildings that can be re-used; and then encourage new infill development projects at key locations.

We will focus on educational and recreational activities for the youth and programs that create jobs, reduce crime, encourage new businesses back to the neighborhood, and provide mentorship programs, nutritional education, and the promotion of urban agriculture, green technology and sustainability.

The MLK Drive, Street Cleanup and Revitalization Program will make the St. Louis Region a better place to live by rebuilding a community rich in Local and American history. We can provide an example for leadership and a road map for healing to regain the self-esteem and pride necessary to reverse the negative trends of decay.
We believe that people are the most important ingredient in creating a "sense of place" or community. People help build neighborhoods and must be encouraged and empowered to design their own future.
