Free Geek is always looking for new volunteer instructors. Gain teaching skills while giving back to your community! You may teach from our pre-constructed curriculum in one of our consistently offered classes, or work with Free Geek to develop new curriculum based on your interests and skills.
General Responsibilities
Lead classes: Set up before class, teach, answer participant questions, and put away materials after class
Teach individuals of varying experience and ability basic computer skills
Encourage participants to take other available classes
Collaborate with Free Geek staff and fellow volunteers on developing class curriculum
Communicate online with Education Coordinator and fellow teachers to set monthly teaching schedule
Desired Qualifications
Knowledgeable of basic computer use
Patient and interested in teaching people from a range of backgrounds and abilities
Enjoys and works well with people
Self-motivated
Fluency in languages other than English is a big plus, but not required
Application Process
Take a tour of Free Geek to check out our facility and culture. We offer tours at 11am and 4pm every day Tuesday through Saturday.
Fill out the application at the bottom of the page on freegeek.org/classes. A Free Geek staff member will get back to you within two weeks.
Come in for an interview. We’ll discuss your interests, qualifications, and availability, and determine if teaching at Free Geek is a good fit. We’ll find the right opportunity for you!

Mission Statement
FREE GEEK is a 501(c)(3) not for profit community organization that recycles used technology to provide computers, education, internet access and job skills training to those in need in exchange for community service.
Description
At Free Geek, volunteers may earn a free desktop PC by volunteer 24 hours in any of our programs.
In Recycling, volunteers may:
-sort incoming donated hardware
-disassemble computers and other electronic equipment
-transport equipment from receiving to testing areas
In Refurb, volunteers will:
-learn about internal computer components
-evaluate, quality check, and refurbish PCs and laptops
-may advance to iMacs and other hardware testing
In Internships, volunteers gain:
-100+ hours of training and experience in advanced reuse, recycling, or non-profit administration activities
-leadership skill building
-professional references and letters of recommendation (not usually available for non-intern volunteers)
