This is a time of exciting transition for the Shawnee Indian Mission Historic Site with new year round public hours, a fulltime staff member and a partnership between the City of Fairway, the SIM Foundation and the Kansas State Historical Society. The new site director, Jennifer Laughlin, is looking to building a vibrant volunteer and docent program. Volunteers will be needed to assist with museum tours, school groups, youth camps and special events!

Mission Statement
The preservation, education, and operation of the Shawnee Indian Mission Historic Site in Fairway, Kansas. The Shawnee Indian Mission provides unique educational and historical experiences for all its visitors. Not only is it a valued asset to the surrounding community; but it is the most important historic site in the entire State of Kansas dating from 1839.
Description
The Shawnee Mission, like many other missions, was established by Reverend Thomas Johnson, as a manual training school attended by boys and girls from Shawnee, Delaware, and other Native American nations from 1839 to 1862. This is a 12-acre National Historic Landmark, featuring three historic buildings located in Fairway, Kansas. Exhibits and artifacts highlight the stories of those who lived there.
