About Women's Lunch Place

Location:

67 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116, US

Mission Statement

The Women's Lunch Place provides a safe, comfortable day time shelter, nutritious food, and services for women who are experiencing homelessness or poverty. We treat women with dignity and respect, and foster a community committed to meeting each woman's needs

Description

The Women's Lunch Place is a daytime shelter where homeless and poor women and their children find support, friendship, a nutritious home-cooked meal and a safe haven from the streets. Most importantly, it provides a place for women who have suffered unbearable losses of family, friends and home to regain a sense of dignity and self-esteem.

Each day we serve a well-balanced breakfast and lunch to approximately 150 women and provide our guests with clothing, toiletries, and the opportunity to take a hot shower and do their laundry. A doctor or nurse is available five days a week to provide free medical care to women who otherwise would not be able to afford it at all. Our shelter also has a "nap room" where women who sleep on the streets have a safe and quiet place to rest. In addition, we have a resource center with several computers where women can search for jobs or apartments, and have two full-time advocates on staff who help our guests with their compex legal, financial, medical, and emotional issues.

As a volunteer, you will play an important role in the delivery of services to our guests, and will be welcomed into our vibrant and diverse community.
