Interested in nonprofits? Education? Help put kids on a path to educational success, while gaining valuable professional experience. As an AmeriCorps VISTA with Altamonte Elementary School, you will foster relationships with the local community to recruit dedicated volunteers to work with students within the public schools.
One in three children in Orlando is currently living in poverty. Education is the single most influential factor in ensuring that children can grow up and move out of poverty. Help children to a brighter future. As a Mentor/Tutor Program Coordinator, you will improve public education by engaging community organizations in support of low-income schools. You will recruit dedicated community volunteers to assist students struggling with attendance, behavior, or academics.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Recruit mentors, tutors, and ReadingPals to work with at-risk students
- Volunteer management, tasks include: training, monitoring performance, and event planning
- Cultivate relationships with faith based, business, and other community partners
- Assist with program outcome evaluation and monthly reporting
- Create and/or update program sustainability plans to promote long term success for the schools’ volunteer programs
Service Details:
An AmeriCorps VISTA position is a national, one-year, full-time volunteer service commitment to help local communities create sustainable solutions which help to combat poverty. Benefits include a modest living stipend, healthcare and childcare benefits, ongoing professional development, and an educational award/scholarship upon completion of service.
