ORGANIZATION: BELOVED STREETS OF AMERICA INC

  • 2 people are interested

Working at MLK Beloved Streets of America, you will be on a team, which may be responsible for, but are not limited to the following:

Reaching out to contributors and getting articles written about their businesses or "for purpose" organizations; edit and post articles; follow up with the contributors with their article links and next steps; "Beloved Streets of America" or other media opportunities. You will help us refine our PR Agent process. You do not need to be an expert, but rather have a thirst for learning about BelovedStreetsofAmerica.org and growing as a Public Relations!

Ideal Candidate:

This is a learning environment so we don't expect you to know everything! Applicants with prior educational and/or work experience in PR are preferred, but WE WILL TRAIN THE RIGHT PERSON who is enthusiastic, dedicated, and willing to learn. Candidate must show an interest in all aspects of the media and be comfortable having conversations with anyone. Being able to listen is just as important as being able to speak. If you want to be a PR Agent someday, this internship will give you that experience!

Students and NON-STUDENTS of any age (over 18) and those transitioning into (or building upon) a PR career are welcome to apply.

Skills and abilities:

Knowledge of public relations principles, excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfort and proficiency with technology, including email, the Internet, and learning user-friendly software; organized, adaptable to changes in projects and priorities; able to multi-task and work independently; reliable, punctual, and able to attend Skype meetings once or twice a week (we will work with your schedule), and able to attend at least 10 Beloved Streets of America Team Meetings.

Equipment:

You will need reliable access to an Internet connection, your own computer, Skype, and phone.

Benefits:

You will work directly with the Fundraising Outreach & PR Team and supervisors. You will also have frequent input and communications with the Founder of BelovedStreetsofAmerica.org and get the inside, behind-the-scenes view of a start-up, virtual company. Successful interns will receive a top-notch letter of recommendation and referrals to important business and employment contacts. In addition, we will gladly help you arrange for academic credit.

Location:

This internship is virtual. You will work from home (or school, or Starbucks, or the library...or wherever). You can work anywhere as long as you have reliable internet connection and a quiet area for Skype meetings.

Timeline:

Immediately! Approximately 10 hours a week for 20 weeks; we are flexible and your internship is negotiable. We will work with you.

Compensation:

This is an unpaid internship, but the experience is priceless!

About BELOVED STREETS OF AMERICA INC

Location:

5901 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, PO BOX 78341, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63178, US

Mission Statement

Bound by a united vision, Beloved Streets of America fosters collaboration among individuals, groups, and organizations and generates resources to revitalize and conserve streets bearing the Honorable name of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Description

To begin the process we are planning a park that will be dedicated to teaching about the Legacy of Dr. King where there can be speeches and rallies, food and music, and annual events to mobilize the community to spur on the additional planned transformations.

The revitalization will be in three phases: first low-cost efforts that can be done immediately to clean and secure the vacant buildings an d lots; secondly repair and renovate buildings that can be re-used; and then encourage new infill development projects at key locations.

We will focus on educational and recreational activities for the youth and programs that create jobs, reduce crime, encourage new businesses back to the neighborhood, and provide mentorship programs, nutritional education, and the promotion of urban agriculture, green technology and sustainability.

The MLK Drive, Street Cleanup and Revitalization Program will make the St. Louis Region a better place to live by rebuilding a community rich in Local and American history. We can provide an example for leadership and a road map for healing to regain the self-esteem and pride necessary to reverse the negative trends of decay.
We believe that people are the most important ingredient in creating a "sense of place" or community. People help build neighborhoods and must be encouraged and empowered to design their own future.
