Washington County Community Circles, Inc. (WCCC) seeks volunteers interested in restorative justice, particularly circles, to participate as a community member in Sentencing Circles. Washington County Community Circles, Inc. (WCCC) is an organization formed to address issues surrounding incidents of crime in Washington County through the restorative justice circle process. The primary participants are community members who strive to make their neighborhoods safer and more community-oriented by devoting time to work with offenders and victims. Circles within the justice system aim to identify the factors that contributed to criminal behavior and prevent the recurring behavior, while healing the harm caused by the crime. WCCC believes crimes with complex causes such as addiction, lack of education or lack of positive support can be better served with circles than the traditional model of punishment. Law students are being sought to participate in the Circle process as community volunteers. For this placement, volunteers will be placed in one of three communities: Cottage Grove, Stillwater, or Woodbury. Volunteers will participate in cases referred from the courts for sentencing. Volunteers will be asked to commit to at least one case, but may join multiple cases.
Visit our volunteering page on our website (https://www.peacemakingcircles.org/volunteer/) for more information about volunteering or contact us via phone or email.
We look forward to having you join our community of compassionate, concerned, and courageous volunteers.
