Volunteer Opportunity Summary:
This volunteer position is responsible for supervising and socializing with the preschool children attending our Evening Child Care Program (ECCP).
Purpose:
This position helps the preschool children achieve social, motor, and cognitive skills in a safe, positive environment where children can focus on learning and growing. Your presence and life experiences will provide the children with a positive role model and help us to promote the importance of learning, safe playing, and kindness. We appreciate you supporting the children by encouraging them to be engaged in the learning process. This position offers the committed volunteer the opportunity to make a positive impact on a child’s life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the ECCP Teacher, tasks will include assisting with story time, circle time, various activities aimed at increasing specific skills, supervising play yard time, and other tasks as directed by the teacher.
Time Commitment:
The time commitment is one shift (day) per week (6:30pm - 8:30pm) for a minimum of three months. It takes time to form meaningful relationships. The children and the volunteer will gain so much more from a stable and consistent schedule.
Age Requirement:
Minimum age is 18 years old or with an adult if under the age of 18.

Family Supportive Housing provides temporary shelter and supportive services for homeless famlies in Santa Clara County to empower the families to move out of homelessness to independent, self-sufficient living in our community.
Description
San Jose Family Shelter provides temporary housing for 35 families for up to 90 days. In addition to shelter and meals, the program also provides on-going intensive case management which identifies and responds to the needs of the clients, on-site child care, on-site Head Start, tutoring, computer lab, classes for parents and children, after school activities, clothes closet, job readiness skills, job referrals, housing readiness classes and ousing referrals and assistance are also offered.
