The Social Services Agency's Volunteer Income Tax Program offers free tax preparation to households with incomes less than $54,000. Tax preparers are volunteers from the Social Services Agency and other County agencies, and have been trained and certified by the IRS. We are looking for volunteer Community Ambassadors to support the program as friendly, hospitable greeters. Volunteers will provide directional assistance, circulate magazines and/or informational materials, promote voter registration, support on-site coordinators and/or preparers as needed, and provide basic language translation if bilingual.

Volunteers must be age 16 and older. Hours are scheduled during program operations: Mondays & Wednesdays 5:30-8:30 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The program runs from January 18-April 17. Volunteer Community Ambassadors must commit to at least one shift (3 hours) per week for the duration of the program. Only a limited number of positions are available. Prior to start of placement, all candidates must complete an orientation (2.5 hours) and Live Scan fingerprinting (paid for by the Agency).

Our next volunteer orientation is Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 from 10:15-12:45 at the 81st Ave Branch Library (1021 81st Ave, Oakland). This will be the only opportunity to attend orientation prior to the start of the tax program.
