You will also learn how to work in a professional environment and have ample opportunity to network with department leaders and other professionals in the nonprofit and fundraising fields.

Project Description - Marketing, Outreach and Event Planning:

Throughout your time at the association, you will work on a project independently from start to finish. The project will be related to our largest fundraising event, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s as well as our newest signature event, The Longest Day. This project is based on marketing, outreach and event planning.

During your time here, you will create outreach lists of businesses, schools, universities, places of worship and other community organizations to contact to start a Walk team or become involved in The Longest Day. You will create the list in Microsoft Excel, keep it updated and make efforts to call and mail marketing materials to these organizations. Your goal is to develop a relationship with these organizations and recruit them as teams or individuals for the Detroit Walk to End Alzheimer’s or The Longest Day. Once they have been contacted, encourage them to register by offering to set up a team for them or have a representative from the agency speak to their group about the event. Throughout your internship, you will work directly with those organizations that you have recruited as teams for the Walk or The Longest Day by providing any collateral materials needed and general support. You will update and work with the Event Managers as you contact organizations and they express interest in participating. Other forms of outreach will include mailing materials, distributing brochures, posters and marketing materials to businesses and working to engage your university and others within our service area. Other daily tasks will involve welcoming new walkers or Longest Day participants by phone and mailing out team packets.

Details:

The internship begins in late January and ends in early May. You are expected to work 15-20 hours a week and this position can be for credit. This internship is unpaid. To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter to Maureen O’Reilly at moreilly@alz.org.
