Mission Statement
Franciscan Works is dedicated to the ministry for children living in poverty through education that is rooted in Gospel values in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. We believe that the lack of education is a root cause of many social and economic problems in developing countries. The shallow pool of human capital, knowledge, technical skills and abilities compromises their potential for development. We utilize a long-term three-part development model to address this problem. We focus on educating the whole person through a strong Catholic value approach so that education will be used for the benefit of family and community. We promote full participation and ownership of local people by endowing them with the primary responsibility for operating mission schools and residences. We stress the importance of self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship through revenue generating agricultural projects. Franciscan Works strives to be a source of hope for the poor.
Description
Franciscan Works currently operates Liberia Mission Inc. in West Africa. Liberia Mission is a community of love, learning, work and prayer. At Liberia Mission, poor and orphaned children - survivors of Liberia’s long and brutal civil war - are learning to become future leaders in their families, communities, and country. Liberia Mission includes boarding homes for boys and girls, St. Anthony of Padua School, and St. Michael the Archangel Chapel. There are currently nearly 400 children served at Liberia Mission. Liberia Mission welcomes individuals and volunteer groups.
